Name the buyer and the production role
A production company, independent director, design studio and post-production team may show similarly cinematic work while selling different responsibilities. State who hires the business, what stage it owns and which engagements are outside the offer. Create separate paths for an agency producer seeking capacity, a brand team seeking a lead partner and a collaborator checking availability. Each path should reach relevant work and one clear next action.
The City of Los Angeles Business Navigator centralizes official routes for starting and growing a business. It demonstrates the range of operators in the city; it does not define a creative service or certify a provider. Build the site from the team's approved capabilities and actual contracting process. If the team can work remotely, travel or provide local production, describe each honestly. Avoid a global-service claim that hides where crews, permits, equipment or in-person direction are actually required.
Turn every featured project into accountable evidence
For each project, record the client or commissioning context, date, team, role, deliverables and rights-cleared media. Distinguish work led by the studio from work completed by a founder at another company or as one member of a larger production. Credits should remain readable on mobile and should travel with shared project links. Never let a visual grid imply ownership of strategy, production or results that belonged to someone else.
A case page can explain one decisive constraint: a launch date, performance requirement, complex content system, unusual interaction or multilingual delivery. Describe the response and what was accepted at handoff. Use measured outcomes only when the client and source can support them. A beautiful frame is visual proof; it is not proof of revenue, audience growth or conversion. This distinction increases trust and gives search engines substantial project information instead of a gallery of unexplained images.
Design motion around the decision, not around a showreel autoplay
Motion can introduce a creative point of view, but the page still has to load, respond and explain the work. Give the hero a poster frame, reserve layout space and avoid making every visitor download the full reel before reading a service or credit. Support reduced motion and useful controls. On a project page, sequence media to explain the work rather than stacking every clip at maximum resolution.
Define an image and video budget for the initial view, project list and case page. Test on a representative mobile connection, not only a production monitor. Keep titles, roles and inquiry links in crawlable HTML. A static share card and concise description should represent each case when video cannot play. The acceptance test includes the emotional introduction and the practical task: finding a relevant project, understanding the role and opening the brief without waiting for unnecessary media.
Collect a brief the production team can route
Ask for project type, intended audience, deliverables, stage, useful dates, budget band, decision contact and links to available materials. Let a buyer explain uncertainty rather than forcing every inquiry into a finished specification. Preserve the project page or service that started the form. If files are accepted, define types, size, retention and access; a public upload bucket is not an acceptable substitute for a controlled handoff.
Route new-business briefs, employment, representation, press and vendor messages separately. Confirm receipt only after the destination accepts the record and provide one reference for follow-up. California privacy information is a starting point for the company's advisers; the site team should implement the approved notice and controls without presenting a generic template as legal review. Collecting less information can improve both privacy and the quality of the first conversation.
Compare a rights-aware portfolio scope
Use an illustrative brief: a Los Angeles creative company has three services, twenty-four projects, eight complete credit lists, six rights-cleared motion clips and a mixed archive that needs review. It needs a selective portfolio, individual case pages, a capabilities overview and received production briefs. A client portal, talent database and custom video platform are excluded. The scenario is not a Dardo client, a price benchmark or a claim about the local market.
Price archive review, rights and credit collection, information architecture, art direction, motion behavior, editing, image treatment, development, CMS entry, performance work, accessibility, analytics, inquiry delivery, training and support separately. Count how many cases and media conversions are included. The cheapest grid may transfer all archive decisions to the client; the largest proposal may include a platform the team cannot maintain. Compare the same approved inventory and acceptance journeys.
| Portfolio state | Required decision | Acceptance evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Lead project | Which role and collaborators must remain visible? | Published credits match the approved record |
| Restricted project | Which media and facts may be public? | Only cleared excerpts appear |
| Incomplete archive | Publish, hold or request missing evidence? | No unsupported role is implied |
Prepare every project page for search, referrals and rights review
A portfolio entry should work when a buyer arrives directly from search, a private referral or a social post without seeing the homepage first. Give it a descriptive title, concise summary of the commercial problem, the studio's exact role, credited collaborators, approved media and a route to the relevant service. Add a text explanation beside motion so the work remains understandable when video cannot play. Use still images that clarify craft instead of extracting arbitrary frames. If a project cannot disclose the client or result, state the permitted context and avoid wording that implies a broader mandate.
Create a release checklist for every asset: owner, license or permission, territories, expiration, required credit, model or location release when applicable, and replacement plan. Store a poster and accessible description for video, define performance limits, and test reduced motion. Search snippets should describe the page accurately rather than stacking industry and location phrases. Link related projects only when the buyer can learn a meaningful difference in capability. Review traffic together with brief quality: a case may earn attention yet attract the wrong production role. In that situation, clarify the credit, scope and next action before publishing more look-alike pages. The result is a maintainable body of evidence, not a reel whose legal and commercial meaning decays after launch.
Launch with the people who manage the reel and the briefs
Before sign-off, let a producer add a case, reorder the portfolio, correct a credit and replace a poster image. Test a slow connection, reduced motion, keyboard navigation and a narrow screen. Submit briefs for two service types and confirm each reaches the correct owner once. Verify analytics records the originating case without storing private brief contents. Document domain, hosting, code, media licenses and account recovery.
Dardo can design and develop for Los Angeles remotely and does not claim a Los Angeles office. Local shoots, production observation or rights clearance need named local participants when required. Write meeting overlap and review responsibilities into the proposal. After launch, examine which cases attract qualified briefs and which create repeated confusion. Improve explanation and routing from actual inquiries; a higher play count alone does not establish commercial value or search success.
