# Brand identity design for companies launching or changing

Brand identity work turns a business or product into something people can recognize, understand and choose: a clear position, a name when needed, a visual and verbal identity, and the launch assets that carry it. Dardo designs identities for companies that are starting and for companies that have changed, together with the website they will live on, in English and Spanish from our base in Bogotá.

## What brand identity work includes

Every project starts with the same question: who is this for, and why would they choose it over the alternatives? The answers become a short decision record that the rest of the work is tested against. The scope then covers what a new brand needs to launch, and the proposal lists which pieces are included, who supplies each input and how each deliverable is accepted.

- Positioning brief: audience, offer, category, promise and the alternatives buyers compare you with
- Naming territories, a reasoned shortlist and practical checks, when the business does not have a name yet
- Verbal identity: tone of voice, key messages and how the brand introduces itself in each language
- [Visual identity: logo](https://dardo.studio/en/services/brand-creation/), typography, color, imagery direction and layout principles
- Launch applications chosen from real use, such as the website, [a pitch deck](https://dardo.studio/en/services/brand-creation/), social profiles, a product interface, signage or packaging
- Source files, usage rules, priority templates and a handover checklist

## New brand, rebrand or refresh?

Brand identity work has four starting points: a brand that doesn't exist yet, a name, a brand that no longer fits the business, and one that only needs sharpening. They share one method; what changes is how much of the current identity is kept. If customers already know your business, we start by listing what they recognize and keep it unless it is the problem.

__New brand, rebrand or refresh?__
| Your situation | What the project focuses on |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| A new business, product or offer with no brand yet | A new identity: position, a name if needed, visual and verbal identity |
| You only need a name for a company, product or service | Naming, as a short project of its own |
| An established brand that no longer matches the business | A rebrand: a new identity, and a new name if the old one holds you back |
| The position still works, but the identity looks dated or inconsistent | A refresh: keep what people recognize and sharpen the rest |
| Buyers misunderstand what you do or who it is for | Positioning first, then the identity it calls for |
| The identity is settled and the website is the problem | Web design |

## Make the founding decisions before drawing a logo

A new brand begins with an audience, a real offer and a reason to choose it. We define the category you compete in, the promise, the tone, likely extensions and the first channels. If you are still testing the product or the customer, the brief says so: a large identity system built on an untested proposition is expensive to change. The first milestone is a shared decision record, not a page of logo options.

Every design direction is later judged against that record: whether it serves the agreed audience and promise, not whether someone likes a color.

## Naming, when the business still needs a name

If the name is open, [naming](https://dardo.studio/en/blog/how-to-name-a-business/) follows explicit criteria for pronunciation, spelling, distinction and use in each intended language. Candidates are developed in separate territories, compared against the same criteria and shown in context: a website header, an email address, a spoken introduction. Public web and domain checks reveal practical conflicts early.

Trademark clearance is a legal question. A qualified trademark lawyer in each market where you will operate should assess registrability and freedom to use before the name is adopted, and the final name is approved only after those checks. If the name is the main problem, our [brand naming service](https://dardo.studio/en/services/brand-creation/) covers it in more depth.

## An identity you can use in every launch language

Visual and verbal identity are developed together and tested on representative uses rather than presentation mockups: a small screen, a proposal, a social image, a sign or a package where relevant. An identity that looks convincing in a hero mockup can fail at small sizes or in a second language, so those real uses become the acceptance examples for the final system.

For brands launching in English and Spanish, each language has a responsible reviewer, and key messages are adapted rather than translated word for word. A tagline or tone that works in one market is checked in the other before it goes public. Because the studio works in both languages, this review happens inside the project instead of after launch.

## Proof: what Dardo did for A medio tono

[A medio tono](https://dardo.studio/en/work/gissi/) is a music school offering classes in Bogotá and online. Dardo's work there covered brand naming, [web design](https://dardo.studio/en/services/web-design/), development and SEO. The name works as a musical reference, while the website does the explanatory work: it presents instruments and teachers and carries a future student from choosing a course to a conversation with the school about a specific teacher.

It is relevant evidence for naming a new business and launching it online. It is not a complete identity case: it does not document [a logo](https://dardo.studio/en/blog/logo-design-cost/), [brand guidelines](https://dardo.studio/en/blog/brand-guidelines/) or print applications by Dardo, and no enrollment, traffic or revenue lift has been measured.

## What brand identity work costs and what you receive

There is [no package price](https://dardo.studio/en/pricing/). The estimate separates strategy, naming, identity, copy, website, production and rollout so you can prioritize, and it moves with the number of languages, decision makers, applications and production partners. In our inquiry form, people choose budget ranges from under USD 5,000 to over USD 60,000.

At handover you receive source files, usage rules, approved copy and the templates in scope, with a checklist for the first public touchpoints. The proposal names who is responsible for legal checks, content and website implementation, so nothing important falls between the studio and your team.

## A bilingual studio for US and Latin American brands

Dardo is a three-person studio in Bogotá, Colombia, founded in 2026 and led by its founder, Nicolás Cerón. You work directly with the people who do the work, in English or Spanish. Bogotá is on UTC−5 all year, so our working day overlaps with US Eastern and Central time, which makes a [nearshore brand project](https://dardo.studio/en/nearshore/) practical for teams in the United States and Canada as well as across Latin America.

## Questions before you choose

**What does brand creation include?**

Brand creation includes the decisions and assets a new business needs to launch: a position, a name if you need one, a verbal and visual identity and the first applications. Typical deliverables are a positioning brief, logo, typography, color, tone of voice, priority templates and usage rules. Dardo's proposal names the exact deliverables, languages and review rounds before work starts, so you can compare quotes on the same scope.

**How much does it cost to create a brand?**

It depends on scope; Dardo quotes each project after a first conversation instead of selling packages. The main cost drivers are whether naming is included, how many languages and markets the brand must work in, how many applications are produced and how many people approve decisions. Published agency prices range from a few thousand dollars to six figures, so compare quotes by deliverables, not headline price.

**What is the difference between a logo and a brand identity?**

A logo is one mark. A brand identity is the system that makes a business recognizable: name, logo, typography, color, imagery, tone of voice and the rules for using them together. A new business can launch with a compact identity, but it needs more than a logo to look consistent across a website, a proposal and social profiles.

**Should I hire a freelancer or a branding studio?**

Hire a freelancer when you need one defined asset, such as a logo for an idea you are still testing. Choose a studio when strategy, naming, identity and the website have to be coordinated. Dardo is a three-person, founder-led studio, so you get that coordination without the account layers of a large agency, and the people who scope the work are the people who do it.

**Do we need a website at the same time as the brand?**

Only if the website is a priority launch channel. Identity and website are scoped separately, but they should share the same approved position and language. Planning both together lets the identity be tested on real pages before it is final, so the site can launch with the brand.

**Can Dardo register our trademark?**

No. Dardo runs creative and practical checks, such as public web and domain searches, but registrability and freedom to use must be assessed by a qualified trademark lawyer in each market. In Colombia, trademarks are registered with the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio; in the United States, with the USPTO. We schedule that legal review before the name is adopted.

**How do you collaborate with US and Latin American teams?**

Yes. Dardo works remotely in English and Spanish, and Bogotá is on UTC−5 all year, so the working day overlaps with US Eastern and Central time. A bilingual, nearshore studio also helps when the brand must reach Spanish-speaking customers in the United States or Latin America, because both languages are reviewed inside the project.

**How long does it take to create a brand?**

There is no standard duration; it depends on scope and on how quickly decisions are made. A project with one decision maker and a few launch applications moves faster than one with naming, several markets and board approval, and legal review of a name can add time outside the studio's control. The proposal includes a dated schedule with a checkpoint for each decision.
